Cheek Fillers Sydney & Canberra

Cheeks are one of the main structures in the mid face meaning it is an important area to consider when we look at the face and the aging process.

Patients tend to notice the first signs of aging in cheek area, this is due to the fat pads with gravity descending downwards. This emphasizes the hollowing of the eye area, adds weight onto the nasolabial fold and increases heaviness to the lower face and jowl region.

We also see high and full cheeks as a sign of youth.

Why is there a need for filler on the cheekbone?

Cheeks as mentioned above have a large role to play in the surrounding structures of the face, which is why it can be important to address your cheeks before other areas on the face. Cheeks are also often overlooked by patients, as their concern may be something completely different, for example the under eye area. Patients are often surprised to learn that in fact it is not the under eye area that needs to be treated.

The prevalence of patients also wanting higher cheekbones or a more contoured appearance makes it’s a very popular treatment in our clinics.

Is there a difference of filler in the cheeks in comparison to other areas?

Cheek filler is using Dermal filler which is a gel like hyaluronic acid based substance that ranges in different densities. Cheeks when injecting for structure onto bone will use a more dense filler such as Juvederm Voluma or Volux, Restylane Lyft or Defyne, Teoxane Rha4 or Chroma Volume +

For some patients a more softer filler such a Restylane Refyne, Juverderm ultra+ will be added into the fat pad to restore loss of volume.

How much filler is used for the cheeks?

The amount of dermal filler need for the cheeks vary from patient to patient. In some cases sessions will be split depending on the severity of the deficit. On average the patient will require 2-3 mls of product.

What can I expect?

During the treatment the clinician will use a needle or a cannula to fill the area. The procedure takes approximately 30-45 minutes.

The treatment is very well tolerated with minimal discomfort to the patient. Some bruising or swelling post treatment is to be expected.

You can expect to have some swelling on day 2-3 which will subside.

You can return back to your daily activities post treatment.

Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and anit-inflammatory medication for 24 hours after.

Can I do multiple areas on the day with cheek filler?

Absolutely. We often pair this treatment with other areas of the face depending on your concerns.

Often when under eyes are the concern, we will add filler to the cheeks to lift and support. We will then put a softer filler such as Juvederm Volbella, or Teoxane Redensity into the tear trough area to smooth out any irregularity between the cheek and the under eyes giving a more youthful appearance.

We can target all the other areas of the face to ensure a harmonious result. Your clinician will assess and advise.
