Botox and Anti-Wrinkle
Botox is a muscle relaxer that is injected into many areas of the face to smooth out wrinkles, slim the face, reduce pores and give an overall more youthful appearance.
How does it work?
Botox is a drug used to weaken or paralyse the muscles, to reduce wrinkling of the skin and restore your complexion. Botox can be used to prevent the appearance of age-related wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes, mid-eyebrow lines, and wrinkles or sagging skin around the neck.
Small injections with a fine needle are placed in different depths and locations for your desired outcome. This treatment is very well tolerated with minimal discomfort to the patient.
Once injected the product starts to disrupt the nerve signals from the muscle to the brain that is telling it to contract.
Where else can Botox be used?
There are many other uses for Botox. The main areas for the face include:
- Eyebrows
- Forehead
- Crows feet
- Lips
- Smokers lines
- Downward smile
- Jaw line slimming
- Neck lift
- Excess sweating (underarms , Hands and feet)
- Calf slimming
- Trapezius slimming
Post treatment
After your Botox/Dysport/Letybo/Xeomin treatment it is important to avoid touching the area that has been treated.
Its is also advised to stay upright for the next 4 hours to prevent the product from spreading to an adjacent muscle.
Avoid anti- inflammatory or fish oil medications both before and after the procedure for 24 hrs to avoid bruising.
No exercise or alcohol for 24 hours post treatment
No massages or facials for atleast 24-48 hours post treatment.
Difference between Botox and fillers?
Botox and Dermal filler are two completely different things. Dermal filler is a hyaluronic acid gel used to create volume and correct irregularities in the face. Botox is a muscle relaxant used to smooth areas and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face due to the dynamic movement.
Other anti- wrinkle products used in clinic are – Dysport, Xeomin and Letybo.
Dermal fillers used in our clinic include the ranges from Juvederm , Restylane, Teoxane and Chroma
Your clinician will advise in consultation what it is that you need for your desired result.
How Long Do the Effects of our Botox Last?
Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Letybo all generally start to take effect from day 2-3 post treatment with the effects lasting 3-4 months. In some patients this can extend up to 6 months. Results vary from patient to patient and differing dosages.
Will I still have Expression on my face following Botox?
Yes. Your clinician will work with you in coming up with the appropriate dosage for your desired outcome.
Are there any adverse effects?
Some people experience a tight feeling in the first 2-3 weeks. This settles with time.
In some cases your botox can work a little “too well” on your forehead and this may feel like you have heaviness to your eyebrows. This generally only lasts 1 week and settles on its own.
Headaches post treatment are also very normal. Taking a pain killer will help however will settle on its own.
In some rare cases you may experience an eye lid ptosis when the botox has travelled into the eye lid muscle. There are treatments to help reverse this however this too will settle on its own.
Am I a good candidate?
Botox is mainly to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines for those who have symptoms of ageing present on their skin. However we are seeing now people who are younger coming in to get small doses of botox to prevent any deeper lines. Prevention is always best to avoid deeper lines that may become more difficult to treat later on in life.
You must be over the age of 18
